The Williams College Department of Music presents the Williams College Wind Ensemble on Friday, Dec. 8 at 8 p.m. in Chapin Hall. This free event is open to the public.

In this concert, titled Cathedrals, the Wind Ensemble offers music by Debussy, Wagner, Alfred Reed, and more. A featured work of Claude Debussy is La Cathédral engloutie (The Engulfed Cathedral.) Also on the program is a work by the American neo-classical composer, Alfred Reed, a movement from his Symphony No. 3, titled Variations on the “Porazzi” Theme of Wagner. Richard Wagner’s Elsa’s “Procession to the Cathedral“ from Lohengrin, and Ron Nelson Morning Alleluias round out the program. To finish, the Wind Ensemble presents Alfred Reed’s Russian Christmas Music in a performance that includes sopranos and altos from the Williams Chamber Choir.

About Brian Messier
Prof. Brian Messier’s research on audience attraction, engagement, and retention has resulted in his participation in the New Audiences and Innovative Practices program in Iceland; guest speaking engagements in Minnesota and the Netherlands; and his appointment to the College Band Director’s National Association committee for the advancement of wind music in our culture. In addition to his position at Williams College, Messier is also Artistic Director of The Valley Winds and director of bands at Belchertown High School. Messier is in high demand as a clinician and guest conductor, and specializes in integrating collaborative practice and innovative techniques into the large ensemble setting.
