The Williams College Department of Music will present a senior recital featuring Joshua Rim on Saturday, May 14 at 1 p.m. in Brooks-Rogers Recital Hall on the Williams College campus. This free event is open to the public.

Joshua will be playing music by Bach, Mozart, and Bruch. He will be joined by pianist Andrew Liu ’11.

Joshua Rim began playing the violin at age 5, but only became serious about it five years later, when he experienced orchestral playing for the first time. As he recalls a decade later, “Playing in the orchestra gave me chills – I never knew playing with a group of other musicians could be so rewarding.” He received most of his serious musical training in New York City from the Bloomingdale School of Music’s MAP Program from 1999-2007, where he took violin lessons and theory classes, played in various ensembles, and attended master classes. Throughout high school, he participated in the school orchestra and chamber music programs, in addition to New York Youth Symphony’s Orchestra and Chamber Music programs from 2003-2005.

In 2005, he was awarded the Director’s Prize in the 13th annual Bloomingdale Performance Competition and the Mu Phi Epsilon scholarship for musical excellence. The following year, he won first prize in the 14th annual Bloomingdale Performance Competition and the Bloomingdale Concerto Competition, performing Mozart’s Concerto in G major in June 2006.

At Williams, he has played in the Berkshire Symphony and Symphonic Winds, studying violin with Joana Genova. He is a biology major with plans to matriculate to medical school following a fellowship year in Alabama. He would like to thank Joana for teaching him discipline (it took a long time), the late Steven Bodner for teaching him how to think about music(king), and his family and friends for being entirely supportive of his musical endeavors.
