The Williams College Department of Music presents Ensemble Dal Niente on Saturday, Oct. 18 at 8:00 p.m. in Brooks-Rogers Recital Hall on the Williams College campus. Earlier in the afternoon, the ensemble hosts a compostion reading at 1:00 p.m., featuring the work of talented Williams music students. These free events are open to the public.

As part of Williams Visiting Artist series, Ensemble Dal Niente presents music by composers born in the 20th century, many of the works having been composed within the last ten years. Featured are Alexandre Lunsqui’s Diogenes’ Lantern (2010); Lee Hyla’s Passegiata for solo violin  (2007); Hans Thomalla’s Desert Songs for soprano and piano (2011); Andres Carrizo’s Incantation for voice, piano, and percussion (2012); Alejandro Viñao’s Hildegard’s Dream for soprano and electronics (1994); Giacinto Scelsi’s I for soprano and tenor saxophone (1956); and the world premiere of Santiago Diez-Fisher’s one poetic switch for solo piano. Williams professor and composer Ileana Perez Velazquez presents her work Del Falso Amor Impuro for soprano, saxophone, violin, percussion, and piano (2013).

Ensemble Dal Niente is a 20-member Chicago-based contemporary music collective that presents and performs new music in ways that redefine the listening experience and advance the art form. The programming, brought to life by a flexible repertoire-based instrumentation, seeks to challenge convention and create engaging, inspiring, and immersive experiences that connect audiences with the music of today. more
