Described by Time Out New York as a “striking new-music string quartet,” the Momenta Quartet has premiered over 50 works since 2004. The quartet comes to Williams College to share an exciting and diverse program of recent works by Latin American composers.

Emilie-Anne Gendron, violin
Lauded by the New York Times as a “brilliant soloist,” Emilie-Anne Gendron has performed internationally in such venues as Cadogan Hall, the Salle Gaveau, the Seoul Arts Center, the Kennedy Center, Avery Fisher Hall and Zankel Hall. Based in New York, she is an avid supporter of new music, having worked with such eminent composers as Roger Reynolds, Jay Greenberg, Hiroya Miura, Behzad Ranjbaran, Aaron Jay Kernis, Samuel Adler, Elliott Sharp, and Philip Lasser. Since 2005 she has been a core member of the acclaimed Sejong Soloists. Ms. Gendron has enjoyed success in several competitions, most recently winning 2nd Prize and the Audience Prize at the 2009 Sion-Valais (formerly Tibor Varga) International Violin Competition. She is also a past winner of the Stulberg String Competition. Ms. Gendron was trained at the Juilliard School where her teachers were Won-Bin Yim, Dorothy DeLay, David Chan, and Hyo Kang. She holds the Artist Diploma and Master of Music degree from Juilliard, as well as a B.A. in Classics from Columbia as a graduate of the Columbia-Juilliard joint-degree program

Asmira Woodword-Page, violin
Described as “a remarkable and auspicious talent” by The Sydney Morning Herald and praised for her “transforming intensity and beauty of tone” by Allan Kozinn of the New York Times, Australian violinist Asmira Woodward-Page has received international recognition for her artistry. Ms. Woodward-Page won the 2003 Concert Artists Guild Competition and performs internationally as soloist and chamber musician, appearing most recently in New York City in recital at Weill Hall in Carnegie Hall and as soloist with SONYC (the String of New York City) and The Little Orchestra Society.  She has collaborated with many conductors including Andre Previn, Kurt Masur, Christopher Hogwood, Jahja Ling, Michael Christie and Muhai Tang and performed with all the major orchestras in Australia and several in the US and Canada including  Evanston, Altoona, Wartburg,  Oakville  and Indiana University Symphonies, the  Charlotte  and Colgate Philharmonics, and the Metropolitan Orchestra of New Jersey.

Stephanie Griffin, viola
Praised by the New York Times for her “fiery, full-throttle performance” and “virtuoso flair,” Canadian violist Stephanie Griffin performs regularly as a soloist and with a wide range of ensembles, including Carl Maguire’s avant-jazz band Floriculture, the Argento Chamber Ensemble, Continuum, String Orchestra of New York City (SONYC), the Riverside Symphony and the Princeton Symphony, where she serves as principal violist.  As a soloist, she has worked closely with numerous composers, among them Kee Yong Chong; Matthew Greenbaum; Arthur Kampela; Ursula Mamlok; Tristan Murail; and Tony Prabowo, with whom she has collaborated for twelve years.  Ms. Griffin studied viola with William Gordon, Paul DeClerck, Wayne Brooks and Samuel Rhodes and holds a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from The Juilliard School. She has recorded for Aeon, Koch, Arte Nova, Harmolodic, Siam Records, Aksara and Firehouse 12.

Michael Haas, cello
Michael Haas has established himself as an accomplished and exciting young cellist, performing in New York and around the world.  In a recent performance his playing was noted as “refined and attractive” by The New York Times. Michael has recently appeared performing chamber music at Alice Tully Hall, the Kennedy Center, and as a guest at the Philadelphia Chamber Music Society collaborating with esteemed artists such as Claude Frank, Ida Kavafian, Steven Tenenbom, and Lowell Liebermann.

Michael holds degrees from the Curtis Institute of Music and the Juilliard School studying with David Soyer, Peter Wiley, Joel Krosnick, and Darrett Adkins.  He has recently performed at the Yellow Barn, Tanglewood, and Taos music festivals.
