A public talk “Why Are There Flat Earthers?” presented by Associate Professor of Philosophy Jeffrey Kaplan, University of North Carolina, Greensboro, tonight at 4:00 p.m., Griffin 6.

The Earth is a sphere. And we have known this for thousands of years. So why do an increasing number of people believe it is flat? It is because they hold a specific theory of knowledge—an extreme version of the view held by 17th and 18th century philosophers, such as John Locke and David Hume. In this presentation, Professor Jeffrey Kaplan (Williams class of ‘09) lays out these theories, explains where they go wrong, and shows what they reveal about all conspiracy theories.

Event sponsored by Philosophy, Phi Beta Kappa, and the Center for Learning in Action.
