The Egocentric Network Model for Dynamically Evolving Citation Networks by Justin Byun ’24, Wednesday April 17, 1:10 – 1:50pm, North Science Building 015, Wachenheim

Abstract: As the collective body of publication research expands further with time, “traditional” methods of searching for papers in specific topics will slowly become more inadequate. With this in mind, fields such as information science and bibliometrics are increasingly relying on networks in order to demonstrate relationships between scientific publications, more specifically the citations that exist within any given group of documents. In this presentation, I will begin by introducing a general network structure for a citation network, followed by a newly proposed egocentric network model using the Cox Proportional Hazard model under a counting process framework. In the end, I will demonstrate an application of the model on a real-world citation network and discuss the results.
