Sigma Xi Spring 2021 Lecture with Daniel Aalberts, Professor of Physics

In this general-audience talk, Professor Aalberts will present the science of the Moderna and Pfizer-BioNTech vaccines and of messages in translation.

Daniel Aalberts is a computational biophysicist whose latest NIH grant was to investigate the mRNA sequence features that influence protein production. Also while at Williams, Aalberts and his students have invented RNA folding algorithms, formulated polymer theories of RNA loops, and modeled the photochemistry of vision. He teaches computational biology and throughout the Physics curriculum. Aalberts earned his S.B. and Ph.D degrees in Statistical Physics from M.I.T.

The lecture will be held in the North Science Building auditorium. Due to Covid-19 restrictions, in-person guests are limited to Williams College faculty, students, and staff (40 seats total).
