Modeling the Pressure of an Extreme Ideology on a Society by Maria Crestanello ’23, Mathematics Colloquium, Monday, March 6, 1 – 1:45 pm, North Science Building 113, Wachenheim.
Abstract: With a rise of extreme ideologies, we set out to model how the pressure of terrorism affects the evolution of ideologies. Specifically, we will consider the political situation in Basque Country, an autonomous region in northern Spain. In this talk, we will use an epidemiological-type model to model the transmission dynamics between ideological groups under terror pressure. We will simulate different levels of terror pressure to observe the evolution of ideological groups, considering demographic and electoral data of the region. Hence, this model advances our understanding of how to model social dynamics in order to forecast the adoption of certain ideologies.
