One of the most provocative choreographers of the New York scene, Miguel Gutierrez makes works that translate the experiential nature of performing into a sensory experience for the audience. In this solo, Gutierrez weaves a rambling and comic monologue that unspools into a bold and ferocious dance. Set to music sung by renowned soprano Cecilia Bartoli,HEAVENS WHAT HAVE I DONE pulls the audience through the costuming and preparations for the artist’s piece, all while addressing the high stakes of artistic practice. From ruminations on teaching and travel to the hypocrisies of an unstable world, Gutierrez reveals dreams and desires of a far more personal and turbulent nature.

Gutierrez is a New York-based dance and music artist who makes solo and group pieces with a variety of artists under the moniker Miguel Gutierrez and the Powerful People. His work has toured internationally to festivals and venues including American Realness Festival in New York; Festival d’automne à Paris; Antipodes Festival in Brest, France; Out There Festival at the Walker Art Center in Minneapolis; UNAM in Mexico City; and ImPulsTanz in Vienna. He is the winner of three New York Dance and Performance “Bessie” awards.
