New Patterns in Coloring Carpets by Jake Malarkey ’25, Monday April 28, 1:00 – 1:50pm, North Science Building 113, Wachenheim, Mathematics Thesis Defense
Abstract: In this talk, we discuss and show new patterns in coloring carpets, which are a very new object of study. Specifically, we prove there exists a superimposing structure and periodic repetition in carpets with composite coloring rules, and explore a new notion of containment between carpets. Along the way we look at many beautiful and symmetrical images.
