Modeling use of Vaccine and Wolbachia Control Efforts on Dengue Transmission Behavior, by Lucy Gagnon ’24, Monday October 23, 1:00 – 1:50pm, North Science Building 113, Wachenheim

Abstract: Dengue is a vector-borne disease which is transmitted to humans through mosquitoes, and about 50% of the human population live in areas with a risk for dengue transmission. Recent efforts to control dengue include vaccination and introduction of Wolbachia bacterium into mosquito populations as a form of biological control, with strong evidence supporting the efficacy of each method independently. In this talk, we will consider mathematical modeling methods to understand dengue transmission dynamics when vaccination and Wolbachia are used in combination as control strategies.
