Zoa Alonso Fernández, Profesora Ayudante Doctora at the department of Classical Philology of Universidad Autónoma of Madrid will present “Martial’s Spectacular Mereids: Choral Traditions and Pantomimic Aesthetics.”
Professor Alonso Fernández’s current research project scrutinizes the role of dance and movement in ancient Rome, paying especial attention to the implications of the dancing body in the Roman constructions of gender, sex, and ethnicity. Her research interests also include Latin linguistics (Latin Syntax and Semantics) as well as classical Reception Studies. In particular, she explores the staging and re-articulation of Roman myth and history on the dance floor.
