Lewy’s Example: A Differential Equation Without Solution by Adrian Black ’19, Monday, February 25, 1- 1:45 pm, Stetson Court Classroom 101, Mathematics Colloquium
Abstract: It was long believed that reasonable looking partial differential equations should have many solutions in the absence of boundary conditions. But in 1957, Hans Lewy produced a surprisingly simple counter-example. This colloquium will introduce differential equations and then prove why Lewy’s example holds.
