Kyla Schuller (Rutgers, author, The Biopolitics of Feeling: Race, Sex, and Science in the Nineteenth Century), will be speaking on the 1950s invention of gender, as well as a new way of conceptualizing sex/gender that differentiates on the basis of scale, rather than substance.
Mel Y. Chen (UC Berkeley; currently Robert Sterling Clark Visiting Professor of Art History at Williams College; author, Animacies: Biopolitics, Racial Mattering, and Queer Affect) will be responding.
