Knotoids, Generalized Knotoids, Staked Links, Bracelets and Bongles by Prof. Colin Adams, Williams College, Friday February 21, 1:00 – 1:50pm, North Science Building 015, Wachenheim, Faculty Seminar

Abstract: Knotoids are like knots but instead of a string having the ends glued together, they have two endpoints. They can be used to model proteins, for instance.  Over several years, research students and I have extended knotoids to generalized knotoids, which include staked links, which include bracelets, which include bongles. We will talk about how hyperbolic volume can be used to distinguish objects in any of these categories.
