Please join Ken Brown of Duke during his joint physics and astronomy colloquium entitled, “The Fault is in our Qubits” at 3:15PM via zoom. Quantum computing promises to revolutionize how we compute, but current devices are limited by noisy qubits. In this talk, I will first discuss the difference between standard computers and quantum computers. I will then explain how the rules of quantum mechanics makes error correction more difficult than in the classical setting. Finally, I will describe current experiments implementing the basics of quantum error correction.
