Dr. Martinque “Marti” Jones, Assistant Professor in the Counseling Psychology Program at the University of North Texas, will present “Identity, Mental Health & Counseling Processes Among Black Women” on Tuesday, April 11, at 4:15 p.m., in Wachenheim 113. In this presentation, Dr. Jones will use intersectionality as a framework by which to discuss the effects of gendered and racialized oppression on Black women’s mental health, as well as factors and interventions that help Black women sustain against these oppressive forces (i.e., strong cultural identity; informal and formal social supports).
Dr. Jones earned her Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology at the University of Houston and completed an APA-accredited internship at the University of Florida Counseling & Wellness Center. She also completed research postdoctoral fellowships at the University of Michigan and Teachers College, Columbia University.
