A conversation with Dr. Jason Rawls aka J. Rawls Assistant Professor of Hip Hop, The Ohio State University on Tuesday, March 11 at 5:30 pm in Griffin 3.

Dr. Jason Rawls aka J. Rawls is known for his music production work with artists like Mos Def, Talib Kweli, Domo Genesis (Odd Future), Capital Steez (Pro Era), Beastie Boys, Del tha Funky Homosapien, Aloe Blacc and more. Dr. Jason Rawls is a leader of the #HipHopEd movement, and is the first Assistant Professor of Hip Hop at The Ohio State University, where he leads a team that is creating a Hip Hop Studies program in the School of Music and the Department of African American & African Studies. He is the co-author of Youth Culture Power: A HipHopEd Guide to Building Teacher-Student Relationships and Increasing Student Engagement.

Brian Michael Murphy is Associate Professor of American Studies at Williams College and a Faculty Associate at the Berkman Klein Center for Internet & Society at Harvard University.

This event is a part of Rawls’ visit for a Gaudino Creative Residency, and is co-sponsored by American Studies, Africana Studies, the Lecture Committee, and Music.
