Claiming Williams Day!

Thu, January 31st, 2019

  • This event has passed.

Claiming Williams Day begins with refreshments and opening remarks at 8:45 am at the ’62 Center. While most of the day’s events are limited to the Williams College community, several events will be open to the public.

9:15 am – film screening of TransMilitary, followed by a discussion with filmmaker Fiona Dawkins on the MainStage

2 pm – a conversation with photographer Whitney Hubbs at The Clark

7:30 pm – Claiming Williams Keynote: Tarana Burke in Chapin Hall

Claiming Williams invites the community to acknowledge and understand the uncomfortable reality that not all students, staff, and faculty can equally “claim” Williams. By challenging the effects of the College’s history of inequality that are based on privileges of class, race, ethnicity, gender, sexuality, and religion, we will provoke individual, institutional, and cultural change.
