Brass Ensemble

Williams Brass Ensemble, led by Neil Freeburn and Alan Burns, features soloists and brass groups presenting the best in chamber brass music. The directors are also the principle arrangers for the group. The flexibility their arranging offers a huge range of possibilities, far beyond the limited stock material available to brass groups. The ensemble challenges traditional notions of brass instruments. This program is conducted by Diane Bargiel.

This spring concert features diverse works that highlight the rich textures and nuanced harmony of brass music. The program includes: Maurice Ravel’s Bolero arranged for 10 brass; Street Songs by Michael Tilson Thomas; October by Eric Whitacre; Neil Freebern’s arrangement of Astor Piazzolla’s Libertango. Also, a delightfully playful rendition of J.S. Bach’s aria Jesu, der du meine Seele, from Cantata 78.
