Professor Maya Jasanoff, Professor of History and Harvard College Professor at Harvard University, will be delivering a Class of 1960 lecture on “The Dawn Watch: Joseph Conrad in a Global World” on Thursday, September 27, at 4:15 pm in Griffin 7.  Professor Jasanoff will speak about her work tracing the life and times of Joseph Conrad. Born Józef Teodor Konrad Korzeniowski in 1857, to Polish parents in the Russian Empire, Conrad traveled the world for twenty years as a sailor settling permanently in London as an author—writing in English, his third language. As an immigrant from Poland to England, and in travels from Malaysia to the Congo to the Caribbean, Conrad navigated an interconnected world, and captured it in a literary oeuvre of extraordinary depth. His life story delivers a history of globalization from the inside out, and reflects powerfully on the aspirations and challenges of the modern world.
