DANC 305/Advanced Ballet Performance

Please join us to celebrate the inaugural semester of DANC 305 (Advanced Ballet Technique and Performance), which culminates in the premiere of a 20-minute ballet “Sketches from Romeo and Juliet.”  Eight skilled, gloriously individual dancers perform both as ensemble members and soloists in this work inspired by and created for them by instructor Janine Parker. Two of the five sections of music by Sergei Prokofiev (from his famous score for the ballet “Romeo and Juliet”) are danced to recordings by pianist Jenny Yu, ’23; the dancers also collaborated with the  ’62 CTD costume shop’s Barbara Bell and Samantha Patterson, to design the costumes, which — like the dance itself — are “sketches” that hint at and suggest characters and moods. After the presentation of the ballet, viewers are invited to ask questions, offer thoughts.
