Kate Boyer is a Senior Lecturer in Human Geography in the School of Geography and Planning at Cardiff University (Wales). Her research concerns power, embodiment and emotions in public and private space, and her current research streams include experiences of early motherhood on the one hand and education-based programmes to combat sexual harassment on the other. Her work has appeared in such journals such as: Annals of the Association of American Geographers, Progress in Human Geography, and Society and Space, and she has presented work to the UK House of Commons on breastfeeding in public. She received her PhD from McGill University in 2001 and has been based in the UK since 2007.
This event is part of a semester-long series entitled Postpartum in the Academy: Care Work, Precarity, and the Struggle for Rights under Neoliberalism. This seminar examines the politics and geographies of postpartum care/work in U.S. higher education, asking how postpartum rights in the academy and beyond can be struggled over—and won—by leveraging the frameworks of workers’ rights, reproductive justice, and disability justice. The series has been organized by Emily Mitchell-Eaton (Women’s, Gender, & Sexuality Studies, Williams College, erm6@williams.edu) and is sponsored by the Oakley Center for the Humanities and Social Sciences at Williams College.
