Tendai Muparutsa & Afro-Centric

Tendai Muparutsa leads the group Afro-Centric, a quartet that plays Afro-pop style music. His music is a mosaic of sounds from the African continent – with major roots in Zimbabwean guitar style. Tendai plays the finger-picking guitar style on a nylon strings acoustic, does the lead vocals, along with mbira, and percussion. San Diego based Zimbabwean Zivanai Zi Masango plays the lead guitar backing vocals and additional percussion. Ben Isaacs plays bass guitar, is also an accomplished percussionist in styles of West Africa, and is based in San Francisco. Jon Paul George is Afro-Centric’s multi-talented drum-kit player. Popularly know as Jonny, he is based in Boulder, CO. Come and enjoy the music of the Zimbabwean Diaspora at Williams!
