Focused on the questions “What is American capitalism specifically?” and “Why did it take that particular shape in our nation’s past and present?” Mission Drift uses the lens of the American western expansion—from pre-Revolution New Amsterdam to modern day Las Vegas, as well as a ring of financial advisors, to explore and present as unbiased a portrait of American capitalism as possible.

The groundbreaking theatre company The TEAM (Theatre of the Emerging American Moment) devises plays by examining a wealth of material, ranging from existing texts (fiction, theory, drama, etc.) to images taken from visual art and film, and then combining that research with original writing and staging. The company says that it is “dedicated to dissecting and celebrating the experience of living in America today,” and it has become revered for the originality and incisiveness with which it accomplishes this goal. The TEAM’s work combines aggressive athleticism with delicate examinations of the social and political factors shaping our world today, keeping the brain, eyes, and heart of the audience constantly stimulated.

This performance is made possible by the W. Ford Schumann ‘50 Endowment for the Arts and The Lipp Family Fund for Performing Artists.
