Hopkins Forest Celebrates Fall
Local residents are invited to the annual Fall Festival at Hopkins Forest in Williamstown–Sunday, October 6th, from 12:00 to 3:00 p.m. This event celebrates the changing of the seasons and the bounty of our wooded landscapes, and features music, apple butter and cider production, refreshments, a canopy walkway, an active honey bee hive, and children’s activities including a crafts table. There will also be hands-on activities including traditional shake-splitting and a cross-cut saw competition.
The 2600 acre Hopkins Forest—most of which was donated to the college in the 1930s by the family of Colonel Amos Lawrence Hopkins–has been actively managed by Williams College for teaching and research endeavors for more than 40 years. In addition, the Forest has an array of hiking and cross-country ski trails, along with a visitor center, an herb garden, and a maple sugaring operation.
The festival is free to the public and appropriate for all ages. Hopkins Forest is located at 271 Northwest Hill Road in Williamstown, and is open daily during daylight hours. For more information on the forest and related activities, contact the forest manager at ajones@williams.edu.
