Please join Ken Oloo for a public lecture on Thursday, February 28, at 4:15 p.m. Schapiro 129.  Event sponsored by Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies.

Ken is the Kenyan founder and CEO of Filamu Juani (Films in the Sun), an NGO that offers a free, highly selective and intensive training in video production to youth in slum areas of Nairobi. He has been running the program for 11 years, believing that it is important for Africans to tell their own stories and that the film industry can be leveraged to address youth unemployment. His vision is to create a mobile studio sending groups of film makers to rural areas to train local residents, ultimately creating local news channels at the village level. While on campus he will give a public talk titled ‘Flipping the Script on Youth Unemployment in Africa,’ scheduled for Thursday 28 February at 4.15 pm, and meet informally with students and faculty.

Event sponsored by WGSS, W. Ford ’50 Schumann Fund for Democratic Studies, Global Studies, Africana Studies, and Center for Learning in Action.
