A Mathematical Modeling Perspective on the HIV Epidemic by Monika Bhaskar & Marta Symkowick ’25, Tuesday April 15, 1:00 – 1:50pm, North Science Building 017, Wachenheim, Mathematics Colloquium

The Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) epidemic is an ongoing global health crisis that has impacted millions of people worldwide. With the current changes in policy, the epidemic has become an increasingly pressing concern within the public health field. Due to viral latency, HIV can never be cured, only treated. This talk explores mathematical models for mapping the spread of HIV and viral loads within the body. Some of the models we will discuss include the SI Model, the Viral Dynamics Model, and a Stochastic Model using Gillespie’s Algorithm.
