An Approximation Problem for Noncommutative Polynomials by Professor Palak Arora, Williams College, Friday October 27, 1:00 – 1:50pm, North Science Building 015, Wachenheim
Abstract: Motivated by recent work on optimal approximation by polynomials in the unit disk, we consider the following noncommutative (nc) approximation problem: for a polynomial f in noncommuting arguments, when can we find a sequence of noncommutative polynomials that approximates the reciprocal of f. As an application, we prove the same result for noncommutative rational functions. This talk assumes the knowledge of graduate-level Functional Analysis.
