Using Statistics to Evaluate the Role of Skill in Daily Fantasy Sports by Shea van den Broek ’23, Statistics Colloquium, Wednesday, February 22, 1:10 – 1:50 pm, North Science Building 114, Wachenheim.
Abstract: The debate over whether or not some fantasy sports classify as gambling has been going on for years. This past spring daily fantasy sports were deemed legal by New York’s Highest Court. What went into this decision? We will go over some of the statistics and simulation that can be used to prove daily fantasy sports are more dominated by skill, not chance. We will also go over what integer programming is and how it can be used to pick an optimized fantasy sports team.
